Anytime you are outdoors you are liable to run into wild animals. How close you are can sometimes be a bit of a problem! The best rule of thumb I know is if, at arms length, your thumb does not completely cover the wild animal, then you are too close. Probably a good rule to remember! And when you are out there, remember, you are in their 'hood, not yours. Play by their rules. Do not try and pet or (worse!) feed wild animals. It is not good for them, and is liable to get you bit or worse. Keep your distance, and respect the wild animals.

All that aside, seeing these wonderful creatures in their environment is a special treat for me. Sometimes I go out looking for moose, and end up with nothing. Sometimes you see a fox, or some turkey. And sometimes you are out for something completely different, and you see a whole family of moose. It's all luck, and getting out there. There's no trick, other than working for it, trying hard, and being ready at a moment's notice. I hope you like this peak into the wild side of life in Utah.
